San Jose is the third-largest city in the state of California and the tenth-largest city in the United States. The county seat of Santa Clara County, San Jose had a population of just over one million as of July, 2014. The first civilian community in the Spanish colony of Alto California, San Jose was founded in 1777. Before being colonized, San Jose was inhabited by the Ohlone people.

San Jose is a major player in American sports. The San Jose Sharks (NHL), San Jose Barracuda (AHL), San Jose Earthquakes (MLS) and the San Francisco 49ers (NFL) are all located in or around San Jose, California. San Jose is also home to Alum Rock Park, Children’s Discovery Museum, Kelley Park, Overfelt Gardens, Plaza de Cesar Chavez, San Jose Municipal Rose Garden, Winchester Mystery House and the San Jose Flea Market.
